Zambian music star and Olijaba Entertainment CEO Macky 2 has publicly reacted to the departure of singer Frank Ro from the label, admitting that he feels disappointed but insisting that the issue goes beyond personal feelings.
In a social media, Macky 2 reflected on the investment Olijaba Entertainment made in Frank Ro’s career and used the moment to address broader issues affecting Zambia’s music industry.
“I think I would be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed,” Macky 2 wrote.
However, the award-winning musician emphasized that his message was not about attacking Frank Ro, but rather highlighting the importance of professionalism, loyalty and respect for the business side of music.
According to Macky 2, Olijaba Entertainment invested significant time, resources and belief into Frank Ro because they saw greatness in him.
“Olijaba Entertainment is family, yes, but more importantly it’s a business entity. We invested time, resources and belief into an artist we saw greatness in,” he stated.
Without revealing details of any agreements or contracts, Macky 2 argued that Zambia’s music industry must evolve and move away from operating purely on emotions.
“We can’t operate on feelings alone,” he added.
The rapper further explained that his concern extends beyond his own relationship with Frank Ro. He believes the way artists exit record labels can influence how labels approach future talent.
“I expected a bit more loyalty, not because I need it, but because the next young artist watching your exit needs to see that this is a two-way street,” he wrote.
Despite his disappointment, Macky 2 made it clear that he still believes in Frank Ro’s talent and future potential.
“Frank, I still believe in you the same way I did the day we signed you. You’re incredibly talented with a bright future ahead,” he said. In a show of goodwill, the Olijaba Entertainment boss concluded by wishing Frank Ro success on his new journey and assuring him that the door remains open should he ever need guidance or support.
The development has since sparked conversations among fans and industry stakeholders, with many debating the balance between artist independence, loyalty and business obligations in Zambia’s growing music industry.
As Frank Ro embarks on a new chapter in his career, many will be watching closely to see what comes next for both the singer and the label he leaves behind.
