Zambian musician Rich Bizzy has publicly called for equal treatment of artists regardless of political affiliation, following the reported cancellation of his performances at two government-related events.
In a statement shared with the public, the singer expressed concern over what he described as unfair treatment after allegedly being removed from scheduled appearances at the Serenje Agriculture Show and the Nkeyema Agriculture and Commercial Show.
According to Rich Bizzy, the cancellations came after he performed at a political rally organized by an opposition political party.
“Music Is My Livelihood”
The artist emphasized that performing is not only his profession but also the source of income that supports his family and team.
He explained that, like many musicians, he accepts invitations to perform at various events and for different audiences, stressing that his role is to entertain rather than create political divisions.
“As a musician, my profession is to sing and perform. Music is my livelihood, and it is what puts food on the table for my family and that of my team,” he stated.
Rich Bizzy added that artists should be free to earn a living through their craft without fear of losing opportunities because of the events they choose to perform at.
Questions Over Equal Treatment
In his statement, the musician questioned what he sees as inconsistent treatment within the industry.
He noted that many artists regularly perform at political events for different parties without facing similar consequences, raising concerns about fairness and equal opportunity.
“If artists who support or perform for other parties are allowed to continue participating in government programs, why should we be treated differently?” he asked.

The singer also defended the nature of his work, stating that his music does not attack or insult individuals.
Instead, he described his performances as professional engagements centered on promoting events or candidates who have invited him.
Rich Bizzy argued that artistic expression should not be viewed as grounds for discrimination, particularly when artists are conducting themselves professionally.
Call for Fairness and Tolerance
The musician concluded his statement by urging stakeholders to promote fairness, tolerance, and equal treatment across the entertainment industry.
He argued that opportunities for artists should be determined by talent, professionalism, and conduct rather than political associations.
“Music should unite people, not become a reason for discrimination,” he said.
