Renowned musician and activist Maiko Zulu has taken to his WhatsApp status to address the ongoing discussions surrounding the Zambia Association of Musicians (ZAM), delivering a bold message:
“Keep my name outta the kindergarten circus. Some of the chaps yapping today literally had no balls to serve and instead expected to benefit. Let sleeping dogs lie, you might awake a Pitbull.”
His statement comes ahead of a historic ZAM Annual General Meeting (AGM) set to take place on February 27, 2025, at the Lusaka Playhouse. After years without a formal national executive, musicians from across the country will gather to elect new leadership a crucial step in shaping the future of Zambia’s music industry.
The upcoming ZAM elections have sparked intense debate within the industry, with various stakeholders voicing their opinions on the direction the association should take. Maiko Zulu’s remarks suggest lingering tensions regarding past leadership and the challenges that have plagued ZAM over the years.
As the AGM approaches, all eyes will be on Lusaka Playhouse to see which leaders emerge to steer the Zambia Association of Musicians toward a more unified and progressive future.
