Afro RED releases new album “Homeland”

During 2019, Afro RED began recording their sensational new album ‘Homeland’ in their native Zambia. Now, the masterpiece of founder David Kasochi and his group is finally out. ‘Homeland’ takes Jazz ‘Made in Africa’ to a totally new level. Complex compositions, great arranges and a brilliant sound – thanks to Danish sound engineer Michael Torp – lift the bar of Zambian production up.

‘Homeland’ perfectly showcases Afro RED’s emotive sound, and is the product of their musical journey since the release of their debut album, drawing on the traditional music of Zambia and Kalindula, as well as their signature Jazz sound.

Formed in 2009 in Lusaka, Zambia, Afro RED have gone from strength to strength with their soulful Afro-Jazz sound.
Afro RED consists of founder, bassist and composer David Kasochi, lead guitarist Jones Kabanga, Manasseh Phiri and Luka Mwansa on keys, drummer Frank Phiri and vocalist Saxsa.

The band received critical acclaim for their 2014 debut album ‘Moment of Truth’, winning the coveted ‘Best Jazz Album of the Year’ at the 2015 Zambian Music Awards as well as several band members receiving individual awards in the years that followed.

As well as achieving this commercial success, Afro RED have consolidated their place in the Zambian live music scene, having played alongside Jazz legends such as Earl Klugh, Oliver ‘Tuku’ Mtukudzi and Hugh Masekela as well as performing at the electrifying Stanbic Misty Jazz Festival.

Having recently been signed to Lemongrass Records, Afro RED are preparing to take their sound to new corners of the globe and look set to carve out a long and fruitful career.
