Chipolopolo midfielder Kelvin Kampamba has expressed his emotions following his goal just days after the tragic loss of his mother. Having missed Zambia’s crucial game against Ivory Coast due to the bereavement, Kampamba returned to help his team secure a victory, scoring a key goal that contributed to their success. The gifted midfielder shared the mixture of pain and joy he felt, describing the moment as “fantastic yet emotional.”
“My performance, I can say, was fantastic considering where I am coming from, losing my mum earlier this month. Today, helping the team with a goal and getting maximum points, it’s a good feeling but emotional for me,” he said. Kampamba explained how the support from his teammates has helped him cope with the grief, as being part of the team gave him a sense of belonging and helped him emotionally.
“Losing a mother is a difficult time in anyone’s life, but I wanted to be with the team to regain my focus. After I scored, all the memories of my mum flooded back,” he revealed. Kampamba emphasized the importance of the win, as Zambia pushes towards qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations (AfCON), saying, “That’s what we needed – those three points after losing the first game.”
