“I’m hearing a lot of artists sounding like Jemax” says KB

Yesterday Zambia record producer and music executive KB Killa posted on his Facebook page saying, “Slapdee had a whole generation trying to sound like him, then they started sounding like Chef 187 And now I’m hearing a lot of them sounding like JEMAX .Respect to the trendsetters.”

His post brought an uproar among the music fans. Malcolm On Twitter commented saying, “No this is a lie, Y celeb influenced the new artists including Jemax. KB is not saying the Truth. This whole new kopala type of music was birthed by Y celeb hate it or love it. It was not Jemax.”

Austein on Facebook supports Malcom’s point of view, “408 empire brought up a new sound to the Zambian music industry like it or not even jemax & the likes of chef and almost all the zed dancehall artists are still being influenced by it.”

Other people like Luke supported KB’s view he then posted saying, “It’s funny how even my wife who does not no hiphop music or rap was telling me the other day after listening to the “tuli ma Lebanese track” said why is everyone from the kopala these days sounding like Jemax. Jemax certainly does not sound like Yceleb. I personally knew Jemax KBW before I got to hear any 408 empire songs way back when he was still in Kabwe. So I would say KB is right Jemax is influencing alot of rappers these days especially with sound. Though you might be right about Y celeb he deserves recognition for making lots of people appreciate that new kopala sound he paved way for most of the dou rappers we see.”

Marvin on Facebook also supported KB’s perspective he wrote, “Whatever KB said was true..i am just not sure about Slapdee..not taking anything away from him,i just can’t really remember a phase where new rappers sounded like or wanted to rap like Dizzo…i know of them sounding like Chef and at a certain time Muzo..but Dizzo…kaya mwe.”

Chris Dizzo on Facebook was off the view that “As far as hardcore rap is concern Jemax is by far the best for me… Jemude influenced many artists not y celeb.”

Siame believes that, “Each one of these artists are good in there own rights…there is something unique about the two being compared.”
