Zambian Music Icon Dandy Crazy Passes Away Following Road Accident

Renowned Zambian musician Wesley Chibambo, popularly known as Dandy Krazy, has tragically passed away at the age of 47. The University Teaching Hospital (UTH) confirmed his death early this morning at 01:42 hours.

In a statement released by UTH Adult Hospital Public Relations Officer Nzeba Chanda, it was revealed that Dandy Krazy succumbed to injuries sustained in a road traffic accident on New Year’s Eve along the Great North Road near Kapiri.

“Mr. Chibambo, who sustained multiple injuries in a road traffic accident, was admitted to UTH-Adult in the early hours of yesterday. He underwent an emergency operation later in the day. However, he remained in a critical condition despite various treatment interventions employed by our health staff. He was certified dead at 01:42 hours this morning,” the statement read.

The hospital extended its deepest condolences to the family and the public, mourning the loss of an artist whose music resonated with millions.

Details of the Accident

The accident claimed the lives of four individuals on the spot, with Dandy Krazy suffering severe injuries. Among the deceased were Christopher Muyembe (30), a passenger in the Toyota Allex, and the vehicle’s driver, Makofi Humphrey (25), from Lusaka’s Chalala area. Police are yet to identify the other two victims, including the driver of the Nissan Hardbody involved in the crash.

The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Kapiri Mposhi General Hospital mortuary pending identification and postmortem examinations.

A Legacy of Music and Impact

Dandy Krazy, known for his infectious humor and captivating music, rose to prominence with hits such as “Chintelelwe” and “Donchi Kubeba”. His song “Donchi Kubeba” became a national anthem during the 2011 general elections, significantly contributing to the Patriotic Front (PF)‘s victory under late President Michael Sata.

For his contribution to Zambian culture and politics, Dandy Krazy was honored with the Grand Commander of the Order of Freedom Award on Independence Day 2011 by President Sata.
