Zambia Association of Musicians denounces online claims on unpaid members

THE Zambia Association of Musicians (ZAM) has distanced itself from recent statements circulating online, claiming that musicians who fail to renew their membership by February 20, 2025, would face a ban from live performances and music related business ventures.

In a statement issued to Kalemba, the ZAM secretariat clarified that the ongoing online statements did not come from the association and so, the public must disregard them. The association also warned individuals or organisations spreading the false claims, emphasising that such actions tarnish the reputation of ZAM and its work in the music industry.

“ZAM distances itself from such statements and further cautions anyone/institution that is misrepresenting the association and putting its name in disrepute to desist from such,” read the statement.

The association in charge of musicians further took the opportunity to remind its members of the upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM) which is scheduled for February 27, 2025, at the Lusaka Play House.

The AGM will include elections for the National Executive and members are encouraged to submit nominations. However, to be eligible to stand for elections, members must have paid their dues by February 6, 2025 and remain in good standing. with the association.

The statement further read that those wishing to attend the AGM and participate in voting must remember that the deadline for membership renewal is February 20, 2025.
