Last night, actress Taraji P. Henson hosted the 2024 BET Awards for the third time, and she kicked off the ceremony with a bang. Henson performed a parody of Kendrick Lamar‘s “Not Like Us,” a diss track aimed at Drake, but she flipped the script and made it her own .
Here’s how it went down: Henson came out on stage dressed in a red hoodie, light blue jeans, and sneakers, channeling Kendrick’s style from his recent performance at The Pop Out – Ken & Friends concert in Inglewood, California.
But instead of throwing shots at Drake, she directed her lyrics at Hollywood, calling out the industry for unequal pay among her fellow female actors. She even changed the chorus to “This is about us,” bringing a sense of inclusivity to her performance .
The crowd loved it, singing along with Henson as she brought the house down. It was a powerful moment that set the tone for the rest of the night, which included performances from Megan Thee Stallion and more.
