The buzz is officially on! The first-ever ZAMTEL Social Media Awards are here, and the nominees were announced on March 10th, 2025, sending shockwaves across Zambia’s digital community.
Among the notable highlights, Ba Matero emerged as the top contender, bagging five nominations, including the prestigious “Content Creator of the Year”, the most coveted award of the night. The winner of that category will walk away with a brand-new Toyota Hilux worth K1.5 million, while every other category winner will scoop K25,000 in cash.
As expected, the list of nominees stirred up a mix of emotions. Popular humanitarian Remmy Kangwa withdrew from the competition after being placed in the same category as the late humanitarian Dora Moono Nyambe, calling it an “unfair placement.”
Despite these criticisms, many influencers and creators celebrated their nominations, especially after it was revealed that nominators during the entry phase walked away with iPhone 16s, fuel vouchers, and shopping vouchers a thoughtful nod to fan engagement.
Notably absent from the list were fan-favorites like Kidist Kifle and Chile One, which sparked some heated debates across social platforms. However, Zamtel clarified that nominees were selected strictly based on public nominations during the official nomination period.
With fifteen competitive categories and a star-studded nominee list, the question on everyone’s mind is — Who will be the biggest winner of the night?
