Earlier today, the Permanent Secretary of Youth, Sport and Art, Mr Fumba Chama Aka Pilato, in the company of Zambian music legends such as Slapdee, Bobby East, Jordan Katembula JK, Nez Long, and others, visited the Great North Road Academy Rehabilitation Center just to speak to their friends in the program of recovery.
Bobby East spoke to our friends and expressed how proud he is of them for accepting change and seeking help. He encouraged them to keep up the good work. Mental health for the boy child is complex, as boys tend to internalize their struggles.
Slap Dee spoke about how mental health and addiction can affect anyone. He reassured them that everything will be fine and emphasized that, together, we can fight addiction. JK was honored to visit our friends. He stated that those undergoing rehabilitation are just as human as anyone else. He also highlighted the importance of having someone who can connect you to the right help.
Neslong acknowledged the courage it takes to seek recovery, calling it a brave step. He further stated that the Rehab Center is shaping ambassadors, contributing to the building of a healthier society for men. Accepting recovery is crucial, and sometimes stepping away from society helps in personal growth.
The General Manager for the Great North Road Academy group of companies, Madam Patricia Chibinga emphasized that being in rehab marks the beginning of a new journey. He wished our friends good health as they continue their path to recovery.
The PS PiLaTo reminded everyone that while people may give up on you, the one thing you should never do is give up on yourself. He encouraged our friends to stand tall in all situations, emphasizing that they are their own greatest asset. “Just know that mwine film sakufa. You’re the hero of your story so you will make it.”
