OC Osilliation Remembers Macky 2: From Rising Star to “Small God”

Renowned Zambian artist OC Osilliation recently shared vivid memories of his journey with Mulaza Kaira, better known as Macky 2, DJ Buga or Flava Boy. Reflecting on their friendship and collaborations, OC paints a picture of DJ Buga’s meteoric rise, his brush with the law, and his enduring influence in the music scene.

A Fiery Introduction

“His name is Mulaza Kaira. Aka DJ Buga. Aka Flava Boy!! Before I met Buga, I used to listen to his mixes when he was performing as DJ Buga. His mixes were pretty popular. Around 2008 or 2009, I had a show in Kitwe at Cinderella, popularly known as THE VIP. DJ Richie Richie told me that Buga was going to perform before I came on, and I was like, ‘Cool.'”

OC recounts an almost chaotic start to DJ Buga’s performance. “Before he performed, there was a little confusion because an artist called Ostaino took longer on stage, and they almost ‘Chingad’ Buga to perform. Then he passed me his CD and said to me, ‘Leka mpeformeko ka mo wemupondo.’ ???? So I got his CD and passed it to DJ Richie. When Buga was called on stage, he started performing, and people went crazy singing along to every song. I looked at him and thought, ‘Damn!! This niga is fire ????.'”

Building a Collaborative Bond

After his performance, OC went backstage to connect with Buga. “We exchanged numbers and started communicating. I told him we should definitely work when he comes to Lusaka. We began bumping into each other at different shows across the Copperbelt, Chingola, and Ndola. One time, Buga told me he wanted to do a remix with all the Lusaka artists for his hit song ‘Umupondo,’ and I agreed. He came to Lusaka, we spread the word to artists to come to my studio, Obama Records, and everyone responded because Buga was really coming in HOT, and his name was getting all over the place.”

The collaboration was a success. “I recorded every artist on the remix ‘Umupondo,’ and as soon as the song was released, it was an instant hit. A few months or maybe a year or two later, he went to jail. I remember Mampi, Bflow, and I drove to Chingola to bail him out, but the police told us there was no bail and that he would be released at a later date. That was the first time I met his brother, Chef 187. We left and came back to Lusaka.”

A “Small God” Emerges

Upon his release, DJ Buga’s status skyrocketed. “When Buga came out of jail. Meeehn. Listen to me. He became a small ‘god’. He was the biggest in the streets, all the pretty women loved this guy. Everyone wanted to see Buga. Corporations were giving him deals. I saw people crying when they touched and saw him. Lol. This niga was HOOOT ???? by the time they had that beef with Dizzle, he was already causing trouble everywhere. And guess what – he was really a gangster and didn’t take no shit from nobody. This is one of those people who know who they really are and believe in themselves hard.”

OC reminisced about their time in Chilenje. “I remember one time when I used to live in Chilenje with Angel and Future 101 with my boy Thabo the driver ????????. I love Thabo, by the way. Buga said to me, ‘Boi OC, you are a real person. Thank you for being a brother,’ and I was like, ‘Of course, my gee. All love.’ A few months or a year later, we did Google, and the deal was sealed ✅.”

Legacy and Mutual Respect

He emphasizes the personal legacy and mutual respect. “You see, as much as everyone wants to be a king of this or a king of that, at the end of the day, everyone is a king in their own destiny and kingdom. I used the word ‘small god’ above because this niga was just out of control and he is still a very wonderful and a very hard-working artist I know ever.. Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to give flowers to my brother from another mother, my friend Macky 2 aka DJ Buga aka Flava Boyyyyyyyyyyy! Thank you for giving me an opportunity to work with you and be a part of your legacy. Continue to be a significant influence in our community, inspiration to many young people, and for paving the way for so many artists. We love you, Mr. Kaira. ❤️???????? Macky 2.”

OC Osilliation’s heartfelt tribute underscores the profound impact DJ Buga has had on his peers and the Zambian music industry. From his early days spinning popular mixes to becoming a revered figure, Buga’s journey is a testament to resilience, talent, and unwavering self-belief. His story serves as an inspiration to many, highlighting how personal trials can be transformed into enduring legacies.
