Renowned media personality Mutale Mwanza, popularly known as The M-Nation, has found herself in legal trouble after being arrested and charged for allegedly harassing fellow socialite Daisy Lufumpa, also known as Chichi Daisy, on social media.
According to a police statement, the allegations stem from a Facebook post made on November 8, 2024, in which Ms. Mwanza allegedly referred to Ms. Lufumpa using defamatory language, including the term kape kape, which insinuates promiscuity. The remarks reportedly led Ms. Lufumpa to lodge a formal complaint with law enforcement on November 11, 2024.
Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga confirmed the development, stating, “Brief facts of the matter are that on November 11, 2024, Ms. Daisy Mwansa Lufumpa, a resident of Flat 4, Reasons Estate, Chamba Valley, Lusaka, reported the matter to the police. She alleged that Ms. Mutale Melissa Mwanza, aged 37, posted defamatory and insulting remarks about her on Facebook, suggesting she was engaged in illicit activities.”
Upon receiving the complaint, police launched an investigation which led to the apprehension of Ms. Mwanza. She was interviewed, warned, cautioned, and charged with the offense of Harassment Utilizing Means of Electronic Communication under Section 69 of the Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Act.
Ms. Mwanza was later released on police bond and is expected to appear in court soon.
In his statement, Mr. Hamoonga urged the public to use social media platforms responsibly and avoid disseminating defamatory or abusive content, emphasizing that such acts are serious offenses under Zambian law.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the legal and ethical responsibilities that accompany online communication.
