In interview on Zaye Zahala with Suecey, Zambian artist Jemax revealed the intense self-doubt he battled while recording his debut studio album, Boogeymen. The rapper admitted he nearly shelved the project, fearing it would flop amid a challenging period for album releases in Zambia.
“I was doubting myself ,” Jemax confessed. “It was my first studio album, and I was scared to drop it. During that period, most albums that came out didn’t do well, so I thought mine might flop too. But surprisingly, it did well—better than I expected.”
Despite his fears, Boogeymen defied the odds, resonating with fans and cementing Jemax’s place in the Zambian music scene. His honesty about the creative process sheds light on the pressures artists face when releasing their first major project.
