“I Have a Picture of My Father” – Yo Maps Addresses Fake Paternity Claims

Zambian music heavyweight Yo Maps has officially addressed swirling rumors surrounding his biological father, following viral claims by a man identified as Wilton Mulenga, also known as Bashi Bianca, from Mpika.

During a live session with fans, Yo Maps firmly denied any relation to the man, reaffirming that he lost both his biological parents at a young age. This statement came in response to Bashi Bianca’s public assertion that he was Yo Maps’ father a claim that directly contradicted the singer’s long-standing acknowledgment of being a double orphan.

“I have a picture of my father,” Yo Maps told his viewers. “So please don’t be misled by these comedians looking for attention. These are just clout chasers trying to gain numbers.” He went on to explain that ever since his rise to fame, he has received numerous messages from people claiming to be relatives, some even pretending to be his siblings.

“That’s why they say: work hard until someone claims you’re their child. I receive so many messages from people saying things like, ‘I’m your brother,’” he laughed.

Mr. Wilton Mulenga, who confidently claimed paternity in an earlier video, appeared less certain when questioned further. During an interview, he admitted that he only learned Yo Maps’ full name during the 2023 Ngoma Music Awards, and was unsure whether Elton Mulenga (Yo Maps’ real name) was truly his son.

When pressed for evidence, he said he needed to speak with a woman in Chipata whom he believed might confirm his alleged paternity. In a surprising twist, Mulenga shifted blame to the woman who filmed and shared the now-viral interview, claiming he had no intention of going public.

But with threats of possible legal action looming and the increasing backlash online, the once-bold claimant began to visibly retreat from his statements.

Though some social media users had called for a DNA test to end the speculation, Yo Maps’ confident dismissal of the claims and Mulenga’s shaky defense seem to have settled the matter in the court of public opinion.

As Yo Maps continues to focus on his career, he also took the opportunity to remind fans of the price of success: “When you become successful, people will try to attach themselves to you — even strangers.”

With the drama seemingly behind him, Yo Maps remains focused on his music and gratitude for the adoptive family that raised him with love and support for over 20 years.
