Exclusive: Yo Maps Confesses to Controlling Boomplay Artist Royalties

In a recent interview on The Mijedo Corner, Zambian music superstar Yo Maps made a revealing confession about his early role in bringing Boomplay to Zambia. The singer disclosed that he was the first artist in the country to have access to the platform and even managed a portal featuring around 75 Zambian artists.

Yo Maps explained that many of the artists on his portal were unaware of his role in introducing them to Boomplay until now. He admitted that he occasionally removed artists who insulted him online from the portal, which prevented them from earning royalties through the platform.

“This was not about arrogance, it was about teaching respect,” Yo Maps said. He emphasized that his actions were strategic, ensuring that those who disrespected him online would face the consequences of missing out on revenue.

The revelation sheds light on the behind-the-scenes dynamics of Zambia’s music industry and highlights Yo Maps’ influence in providing local artists with access to a major music distribution platform. His honesty has sparked discussions about artist relationships, digital streaming, and fair practices in the Zambian music scene.

Yo Maps’ story underscores the complexities of fame, influence, and accountability, demonstrating that success in the digital age often comes with unexpected responsibilities.
