UPDATED: 2016 Zambian Music Awards Nominees

After months of intense preparation and voting, Zambia’s most prominent hit-makers have finally been revealed.

Chef 187, Jay Rox and Afunika will battle it out for the coveted title of Best Male Artist, while the Best Female Artist title will be selected from Kan2, Cleo Ice Queen and Chileshe Bwalya.

Amfumu by Mutende Culture Ensemble, I am Lenshina By Mumba Yachi and Nshakalekeleko By Medoreen Besa are the nominees for Best Live Recording Album Award.

The shortlist was drawn up by the Zambia Adjudicators Panel following a record number of nominations from fans. It is now up to the public to vote for their favorites from the three nominations in each category.

The nominations were revealed at a media event at Kitwe’s Keg and Coppersmith venue today (March 31), attended by representatives from sponsor Zambian Breweries, the National Arts Council, the Zambia Adjudicators Panel and the Zambia Association of Musicians.

Zambia Association of Musicians representative Njoya Tee said: “We are delighted to unveil this year’s Mosi ZMA nominees. The record setting number of nominations demonstrates the love people have for Zambian art expressed through music. we look forward to recognizing the hard work of the many artists at the awards and celebrating Zambian music in Livingstone at the Mosi Day of Thunder.”

“We are excited for the awards and more. So, for the Mosi Day of Thunder, We believe that this event will be an entertainment platform that will showcase chart-topping acts, with their signature blend of upbeat and uplifting music. With hit-makers, approved by fans, and therefore, we anticipate a huge crowd of dance-music lovers,” said Mosi Lager Marketing Manger Nomonde Donsa.

The artists are set to perform at the Mosi Day of Thunder in Livingstone on April 30. The Mosi Day of Thunder, is expected to create an unparalleled day-to-nightlife experience. It is anticipated to be the premier destination for party-lovers seeking a quality party atmosphere.
