Zambian hip-hop heavyweight Chef 187 has addressed his collaboration with rising singer Blake, shedding light on their hit record “Nobody” and its impact. Appearing on Kenny T’s 1 ON 1 Podcast (Episode 20), Chef opened up about the song’s success and what it meant for Blake’s career.
When asked if he had any plans to sign or work with Blake again, Chef 187 acknowledged the significance of “Nobody”, calling it his biggest streaming song to date—with 7.6 million YouTube views and over 1 million Spotify streams.
“That was a very big platform for Blake, and it’s up to him to utilise it,” Chef stated. “I only provided the platform and I can only support whatever he decides to do.”
Chef 187 went on to clarify that while he’s open to continued collaboration, he also values mutual effort in musical partnerships.
“I try to avoid situations that make it look like I’m using an artist. So since Blake ali jumping’a pali song yandi, let’s have a Blake song where I jump on.”
He also revealed that they’ve worked on several tracks together, and it’s now in Blake’s hands to release them when ready.
Blake’s star power surged after the success of “Nobody”, with his smooth vocals becoming club anthems both locally and regionally. However, since that breakout moment in 2023, Blake has struggled to sustain the momentum, releasing only two notable singles—“Dirty” featuring Macky 2, and “My Shawty” featuring Jemax.
As fans eagerly await what’s next for Blake, Chef 187’s comments serve as both a challenge and encouragement—a reminder that in music, platforms may be given, but impact is earned.
