Zambian music duo Chanda Na Kay has finally broken their silence regarding the controversy surrounding their hit song “Pwaku.” Allegations emerged after fellow artist Challenger, from the group Aki Na Popo, claimed ownership of the track. Challenger alleged that Chanda Na Kay released the song without his consent, leading to widespread confusion about its true origin.
In a statement posted on their social media, Chanda Na Kay set the record straight. They explained that they were approached by Challenger, who initially brought them a song with explicit content. To maintain their brand integrity, they refused to contribute a verse and instead offered him one of their beats to rewrite a more appropriate song. Despite the opportunity, Challenger reportedly failed to deliver, and out of goodwill, Chanda Na Kay decided to feature him on one of their tracks instead.
The duo expressed disappointment with Challenger’s claims, stating: “Deep down in his heart, he knows he didn’t write that song – ‘na Lesa Alekumona wechipondo’ (God sees you,).” Despite the misunderstanding, Chanda Na Kay wished him well, suggesting that if Challenger is truly talented, he would be able to create another hit.
Challenger, in response, insisted in a recent interview that “Pwaku” was his song and accused Chanda Na Kay of uploading it without his consent. He clarified, “People think it’s their song because they uploaded it without my concern.”
