Background of KCCF:
The Kayula Childhood Cancer Foundation is a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) in Zambia, Southern Africa registered in March 2012 in memory of Kayula Zina Sata – who passed away in 2009 at the age of 4. The organization was co-founded by Kayula’s parents and their families after experiencing the trauma of losing her to a rare childhood cancer called neuroblastoma.
The foundation was created to support The University Teaching Hospital’s (UTH) Pediatric Cancer Ward. The UTH is the only hospital in the country that has a paediatric oncology department. Patients come from all the 10 provinces of Zambia to seek treatment, sometimes spending more than a year with no temporal home to stay. The Cancer Diseases Hospital (CDH) also treats very few children’s cancer cases but only on an out-patient basis.
One of the main projects of the foundation is to have and run a Parent House (Transit Home), where parents of children suffering with cancer would stay as their children undergo treatment. Children who are well enough will also be able to stay at the Parent House in between their chemotherapy. This will both help the parents feel at home and also give the children a “home away from home” feel. As almost all of these patients come from far beyond Lusaka.
They welcome any form of support, volunteering, material and financial support. | CLICK HERE TO DONATE
