Bobby East reacts to Grammy Awards, says they African voters

Following the conclusion of the 66th Grammy Awards, where Zambian artists failed to secure any nominations, Zambian top notch rapper and songwriter, Bobby East has offered his perspective on the outcome.


The highly anticipated Grammy Awards, hosted by South African comedian, Trevor Noah at the Arena in Los Angeles, California, drew attention to Bobby East’s emotional response to the outcome. In a candid moment shared with fans, Vanilla expressed a mix of emotions, acknowledging the significance of the votes.

Reflecting on his journey to the Grammy stage, Twitter (X) page on Monday, February 5, 2024, to share his sentiments. “I don’t know who exactly “The academy “ is ,but they need to get some African voters in that afrobeats category real quick before they piss off a bunch of people.Otherwise they will only vote for the version of our culture that suits their palate,” he wrote, capturing the bittersweet nature of the moment.

The Recording Academy president, Harvey Mason, defended the Grammy Awards’ integrity, stating that winners are determined solely by the opinions of the voting body and that quality, not commercial acclaim, dictates the outcome.
