The song tells the story of someone who had become comfortable being single and had essentially put dating and romance on the back burner. Then, unexpectedly, someone walks into their life and “kumbucha” — reignites — the fire they thought had gone out.
What starts as a spark quickly turns into an obsession. Suddenly, they want the feeling every second, constantly craving the attention, affection and excitement that comes with being in love again. Musically, “Kumbucha” blends Jay Rox’s production with Dove Dee’s distinctive delivery to create a feel-good, relatable love song that captures the rush of unexpectedly falling for someone.
“Kumbucha is about that one person who comes along and completely changes your mind about love. You can spend so much time convincing yourself that you don’t need a relationship, then someone comes along and suddenly you’re the one asking for their attention every second,” says Jay Rox.
