A new update has emerged regarding the situation of IDC Comedy, Chester MoPower, Felix Ndangeni Inshila, and 14 other colleagues who remain in custody in Mongu.
According to a consolidated report shared on Facebook by Cosmas, a team recently travelled to Mongu to establish the circumstances surrounding the continued detention of the creatives and to provide an update to their families, colleagues and concerned members of the public.
The report stressed that the visit was not intended to interfere with the legal process or determine the guilt or innocence of those involved.
Case Now Understood to Involve Riotous Behaviour
According to the information gathered during the visit, the colleagues were initially taken into custody following allegations relating to misconduct.
However, the matter has since progressed, with the current charge understood to be riotous behaviour, which the report states is a bailable offence.
The report further indicates that the case docket was submitted by the Zambia Police to the National Prosecution Authority (NPA) for consideration.
It is understood that the docket was subsequently returned to the Police and that the matter is still awaiting the necessary direction or clearance from the prosecuting authority.
Still Awaiting the Next Legal Step
At the time of the visit, IDC Comedy, Chester, Felix and the other detainees remained in custody as they awaited further action in the matter.
According to the report, once the necessary direction is provided by the NPA, the accused are expected to appear before court, potentially within the week.
Cosmas emphasized that the matter is now moving through the established legal process and called on members of the public to avoid unnecessary speculation.
“This report is not intended to determine whether anyone is guilty or innocent. Those matters remain within the mandate of the courts and the relevant legal institutions.”
The report also appealed to the public to allow the Police, the NPA and the courts to carry out their respective responsibilities.
Concern Over Welfare of Detained Creatives
While calling for due process, Cosmas also highlighted the importance of paying attention to the welfare of the detained colleagues.
The report noted that the individuals remain separated from their families, friends and fellow members of the creative community during the ongoing legal process.
The delegation said it was leaving Mongu hopeful that progress would soon be made and that the matter would proceed without unnecessary delay.
“We wish IDC Comedy, Chester, Felix and all the other colleagues currently in custody strength and comfort during this difficult period.”
The update comes as members of Zambia’s entertainment and creative community continue to follow the case closely and await the next development from the relevant authorities.
For now, the focus remains on the legal process, with the detainees awaiting the necessary direction that could see the matter move before a competent court.A new update has emerged regarding the situation of IDC Comedy, Chester MoPower, Felix Ndangeni Inshila and 14 other colleagues who remain in custody in Mongu.
