Zambian award-winning singer and hitmaker Yo Maps has once again found himself at the center of online debate following the release of his latest campaign song titled “Aleteka”, reportedly done for the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND).
The song, which translates to “He Will Rule”, praises leadership, progress, and unity themes closely aligned with political campaign messaging. However, its release has stirred divided opinions among his fan base, with some praising the singer’s artistry and others criticizing the perceived political alignment.
Supporters argue that Yo Maps, born Elton Mulenga, is simply using his talent as a musician-for-hire, providing a soundtrack for political expression just like any other creative gig. Others, however, feel disappointed, suggesting that his music often seen as inspirational and neutral is being drawn into politics.

This is not the first time Yo Maps’ name has been associated with political activities. The artist has openly stated that he does campaign songs and rallies purely as business, not as a show of political allegiance.
Despite the controversy, “Aleteka” continues to gain traction across social media platforms and local airwaves, proving once again that Yo Maps remains one of Zambia’s most influential voices in music and culture even when the message sparks debate.
