Yo Maps Breaks Silence: It’s All About Money, I Don’t belong to any Politics Party | Watch Viral Video

Zambian music superstar Yo Maps, real name Elton Mulenga, has sparked heated debate online after admitting that he only takes part in political campaign songs and rallies for the money not out of political loyalty or affiliation.

Speaking during an interview that has since gone viral on social media, the multi-award-winning artist made it clear that his involvement in politics is purely business.

“I don’t do campaign songs because I support any political party. I do them because I get paid. It’s work,” said Yo Maps and when someone pays for a campaign song or performance, I deliver professionally, just like any other artist.”

The revelation comes amid growing public discussions around the role of musicians in political campaigns, especially as Zambia edges closer to the 2026 general elections.

Yo Maps, known for hits like Aweah, Confirmation, and Try Again, recently released a campaign anthem titled “Aleteka” believed to be in support of the ruling party, UPND. The song quickly went viral and reignited conversations about entertainers aligning with political groups.

Despite criticism from some quarters, others have defended Yo Maps, saying artists have the right to earn from their craft, regardless of who hires them. “People forget that musicians have families to feed. If someone hires you to perform, you take the gig,” commented one fan on Facebook.

The statement has divided fans some praising his honesty, while others question whether artists should remain politically neutral, especially in a country where music heavily influences public sentiment. As discussions continue, Yo Maps maintains that his loyalty lies with music, not politics, emphasizing that “at the end of the day, business is business.”
