President Hichilema Urges Former President Edgar Lungu to Refrain from Irresponsible Remarks

President Hakainde Hichilema has called on former President Edgar Lungu to refrain from making careless statements, asserting that Lungu is largely responsible for the challenges Zambia is currently facing. Speaking to residents in Mumbwa on Friday, President Hichilema expressed confidence that Zambians would re-elect him in 2026 due to the progress his administration has made in turning around the country’s fortunes.

Addressing the crowd in Tonga, President Hichilema questioned Lungu’s recent behavior and remarks, saying, “The work we have been doing in the three years we’ve been in office, including debt restructuring—did you hear about the debt left by our predecessors? We have unlocked it. Yet, the very person who caused this debt is now standing on a mountain, claiming that ‘HH has failed.'”

President Hichilema emphasized that his government is focused on resolving the issues inherited from the previous administration and remains committed to steering Zambia toward a more prosperous future.
