Zambia Has Decided.
United Party for National Development president Hakainde Hichilema famously known among Youths as Bally was elected the 7th president of Cisi ca (the Republic of) Zambia, the Electoral Commission of Zambia has confirmed. Mr. Hichilema defeated President Edgar Chagwa Lungu after winning with – Votes against outgoing President. Lungu’s – Votes.
After having contested five times and lost all: in 2006, 2008, 2011, 2015 and 2016, President-elect Hakainde Hichilema‘s victory will go down in history as the nations inspiring Presidency story.
After campaigning on a promise to restore the economy. Mr Hichilema secured 50+1 as required Electoral Commission of Zambia votes needed to win the State House.
As news outlets — such as Diamond Tv, the Associated Press, and the ZNBC — started projecting Bally as the winner, celebratory shouts, car horns and victory songs are heard on the streets of Lusaka as Zambians had waited more than three full days to hear who their next President will be. Similar celebrations were reported in other cities across the country including Chipata & Copperbelt.
Voters overcame their fears of the coronavirus, long lines at the polls and the vexing challenges of a transformed election system to render a verdict on Bally’s chaotic and norm-breaking presidency.
