Chanda Mbao shot onto the scene with his popular single ‘Selfish‘ which came out in May 2016 subsequently winning the artist the CBC TV Choice Hip-Hop Video of the Year Award. In early 2017, after a US dancer took his song ‘Wave‘ viral on online platforms, Chanda Mbao foreshadowed the release of his upcoming mixtape, The Patriot. The imminent launch comes just after the release of his Miami-shot music video for his latest single, Who.

After a long wait, Chanda has made the official announcement that he will be launching the mixtape at the Lusaka five-star hotel backed by a live band on Friday 24th, November at 18:00hrs. Taj Pamodzi has come on board as lead sponsor alongside Ballantine’s, Castle Lite, Soundwave Zambia, MT Productionz and NeoNova Technologies. Tickets are available at The Wine Shop (Arcades or Kabulonga) or by calling 0955791402. General Admission is ZMW 100 and VIP is ZMW 250 which includes a three section buffet catered by Taj Pamodzi Hotel.

About the project the Zambian Hip-Hop artist had this to say: “This mixtape represents my journey in some senses — it speaks to the role I inadvertently accepted as a Zambian ambassador in my travels outside the country living in Europe and the US. Everywhere I went I made it a point for people to know I was Zambian. I also decided I would use my full Zambian name for my music while living abroad so the theme of representing my home is very real for me. Beyond that, the title also alludes to the fact that patriotism can come in different packages…just because I look, dress or sound a certain way does not mean I can’t love my country just as much. Patriotism belongs to everyone.

Including features such as T Bwoy, DJ Cosmo, Willz, T Low and Scott, the mixtape is set to be an interesting collage of sounds centered within the Hip-Hop genre but fusing soundscapes from R&B, Dancehall and other genres, reflected in the varied collaborations. Almost all of the 15-track mixtapes collaborators are set to be in attendance of the event which will be covered heavily by multiple TV networks and media crews.

This is a milestone for Zambian music you don’t want to miss. As Chanda said, “We Zambian artists are coming together to show we can do things of a global standard.”
